Hello everyone! I’m Holly Hansen and I am the new AmeriCorps Member for 815 Outside! I am super excited to be in the position. I know there are so many great outdoor opportunities for the residents of Winnebago County to enjoy, and I’m excited to share them with the folks that live here.

Now, this isn’t my first rodeo with AmeriCorps or with our wonderful partners. Some of you may remember me from my time serving with AmeriCorps at Severson Dells as an Environmental Educator. I served the 2019-2020 year and was able to lead field trips and began a lovely program with the Boys and Girls Club of Rockford.

After my time at Severson, I served a second year with AmeriCorps… this time in Florida! I was able to continue growing as an educator, navigating the world of online teaching, and gain new skills through a variety of restoration efforts, mainly in coastal and wetland environments.

Upon returning from Florida, I began working at Nicholas Conservatory and Gardens as a Program Coordinator. There I have been able to continue the garden partnership program with Washington Park Community Center through the winter time. I also assist with the Nicholas at Night events, and other general programming.

Now, I am proud to say I am starting my third term with AmeriCorps… this time with 815 Outside! Throughout my time, I’ll be able to help individuals create connections to our natural green spaces in Winnebago County and promote healthy lifestyle habits.

Outside of work, you can find me on campus at Northern Illinois University while I finish up my degree in Environmental Studies, out on a trail, or enjoying ice cream with friends!

I hope to see you all soon on one (or all!) of our 815 Outside hikes and bikes and at many of our partners’ events!
