Trails for Hiking, Walking, and Running
There are a variety of beautiful, multi-use trails woven throughout Winnebago County. Whether you are looking to take a stroll down a well-worn path to admire the wildflowers, take a journey on one of the many accessible nature trails, or embark on a hiking adventure deep into the forests, Winnebago County has what you want!

Running
Groups: Rockford Roadrunners is a community that runs and races together. Rockford Wildcats is a youth cross country team for ages 5-18.

Handicap Accessible Trails
The following locations have paved paths surrounded by natural area and wildlife.
- Kishwaukee River Forest Preserve
- Rock Cut State Park
- Severson Dells Nature Center
- Forest Preserves of Winnebago County Headquarters

Equestrian Trails
Our region is also home to numerous equestrian trails. The Forest Preserves of Winnebago County lists their horse-friendly trails here, and Lockwood Park Trailside Equestrian Centre and Children’s Farm offers horseback riding lessons, guided trail rides, and equestrian camps and activities.
