Twilight Hike at Jarrett Prairie
January 28 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Free
Join us for a two-to-three mile hike at Jarrett Prairie. As twilight falls, we’ll hike along the lovely prairie. Meet at 5:00 in the parking lot outside the museum. We’ll have a quick information session and use the bathrooms if necessary. Then we’ll hit the trails and hike until about 6:30.
As we hike, we’ll note the the gradual changes in our environment at the following times.
Evening Golden Hour | 05:03 pm | 05:35 pm |
Sunset | 05:35 pm | 05:38 pm |
Evening civil twilight | 05:38 pm | 06:03 pm |
Evening nautical twilight | 06:03 pm | 06:32 pm |
Evening astronomical twilight | 06:32 pm | 07:01 pm |
Night | 07:01 pm |
Night officially begins at 7:01 p.m. and the hike will be over by then, but please feel free to stick around! If the skies are clear, Venus and Saturn — and hopefully Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) — should be visible to the naked eye. There is no guarantee, of course, but there is a good chance we’ll see some starry spectacle!
While we are hoping for clear skies, we will hike (and have fun) even if it’s cloudy or cold or raining or snowing.
Please bundle up, wear sturdy shoes and come properly hydrated. The prairie is moderately hilly and rugged. If you plan to stargaze, consider bringing binoculars. A camping chair or thick blanket will help keep you from straining your neck.
This event is free and for all ages but please register because it’s limited to 20 hikers. Sorry, but dogs are not allowed at Jarrett Prairie.
We can’t wait to see you at Jarrett Prairie!
