Lunchtime Loop at Fairgrounds Park
March 20 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Free
Join us for a lunchtime loop through Fairgrounds Park and the surrounding neighborhood. We’ll hike for one-to-two miles. Park on the street then meet us by the picnic shelter with the green roof. We’ll have a brief info session and then warm up by looping around the park. Fairgrounds park features majestic oak trees, beautiful sycamores and white pines. Kent Creek runs along one side of the park, too. After we’re warmed up, we’ll follow the paved path along State Street and head west! We’ll pass the Rockford Police Department, Crusader Clinic, public art and some prairies and bioswales. When we reach Ellis Elementary School, we’ll turn around and head back to the park. Warren Boykin of Northern Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Northern Illinois will be co-leading this hike.
It is a lot of fun to see the city from the perspective of this path. This “lunchtime loop” is part of our new city hiking series where we get to know our beautiful city one step at a time.
It’s free and open to everyone but please register. There are no public restrooms at this park so please “go before you go.”
Thank you!
P.S. We will send out an email with hike information the day before the hike. The website currently does not send an immediate confirmation to your RSVP and we are trying to fix that.
