Long Hike at Pecatonica River Preserve
October 6 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pmFree
Join us for a hike through the beautiful prairies and along the oxbow lakes at Pecatonica River Forest Preserve, which is filled with beavers and has frequent Bald Eagle sightings! This hike will include 3-4 miles of well-groomed grassy or packed dirt trails with some moderate elevation changes (80 feet over around .4 miles), as well as some very brief unrailed stairs. There is also a section of trails that requires hikers to take a few steps on a 10-12 inch wide board to get onto a bridge, which may be difficult for individuals who struggle with balance. Given the potential difficulties of some sections of the trail, this hike will consist of three chunks, one that is very easy, one that has the board, and one that has the stairs and 80 foot elevation change. Attendees will have the opportunity to leave between each chunk if they do not want to continue to the next section of trails. Water bottles and trail snacks would be useful to bring with you, along with good walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. We will meet in the parking lot at: 7260 Judd Road & 14960 Brick School Road, Pecatonica, IL 61063. Lydia, the hike leader, will be wearing an 815 Outside t-shirt.
